Results so far released by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) from last Saturday’s local government elections show the ruling party in the state, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), have the upper hand over its main contender, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
From results released at the collation centres, yesterday, ACN won in the 11 councils of Egor, Igueben, Esan South-East, Etsako East, Akoko Edo, Esako Central, Etsako West, Orhionmwon, Uhumnwonde, Ovia North-East and Ovia South- West.
Results in Ovia North- East show that ACN won in 11 out of the 13 wards in the council. There were no elections in Oduna ward, the Ijaw area and Okokuo, where a leader of PDP, Mr. Levis Aigbogun, hails from.
In Etsako Central, where the Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Mike Oghiadohme and the state chairman of PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, hail from, out of the 10 wards, ACN won in eight PDP won one, and one ward was canceled due to violence. Orbih won his ward while Oghiadohme lost his to ACN.
Elections in Esan North East, Esan West, Ikpoba- Okhai and Oredo, were postponed till Wednesday, April 24 and Thursday, April 25, due to shortage of electoral materials and violence
